Attendance

Attendance at Burston Primary School

Regular school attendance is essential for children to achieve their full potential. Research from the Department for Education shows that even missing small amounts of school can impact a child’s progress and future opportunities.

At Burston Primary School, we believe that being in school every day supports children to thrive—both academically and socially. Good attendance helps children to build confidence, develop friendships and become motivated, resilient learners.

Working in Partnership

We value every child and work closely with families to promote good attendance. If there are any difficulties affecting your child’s attendance, we are here to help and will work with you to find solutions.

Attendance is a shared responsibility between school and home and plays an important role in keeping children safe and supported.

Expectations
  • Children are expected to attend school every day and arrive on time

  • Parents and carers must inform the school on the first day of any absence

  • Wherever possible, medical appointments should be arranged outside of school hours

  • Children should attend school whenever they are well enough to do so

  • We are proud of the strong attendance at Burston Primary and thank our families for their continued support.

Term-Time Absence

Government guidance is clear that holidays during term time will not usually be authorised. Any unauthorised absence may result in a penalty notice being issued.

If you need to request leave of absence, please complete a form at least four weeks in advance.

Our Commitment

Our approach to attendance supports all aspects of school life, including safeguarding, wellbeing and positive behaviour. By working together, we can ensure every child has the best possible start in life.
